It was March 2020 when most of the hospitality and retail sectors were having to shut up shop – but one thing was unclear: for how long? We continue to find ourselves in this surreal situation, but with some glimmer of hope in the form of a vaccine, we can only hope some normality can be restored as soon as it is safe to do so.
It has been a year since the initial lockdown; it has also been a year since the Flying Monk Brewery acquired new owners. It is a strange feeling, having only operated in this industry at a time when the pubs and restaurants have been told to close or operate under restricted measures (we wish all those in the trade the best and we look forward to seeing you on the other side).
As the measures started to overshadow everyday life, this caused people’s routine to change – such as staying local in a bid to curb travel. For us, this meant we were able to discover new ways a brewery can integrate into its local community. Every Friday we started to run a Local Free Delivery service, which meant those who were isolating could continue to do so. And soon enough, when the hot weather set in, we were delivering 5L kegs of Mighty Monk – a blonde beer best enjoyed on those sunny days – to doorsteps all over Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
The support for and popularity of the service has been overwhelming. Thank you to all those who have ordered and to those who continue to do so. (In case anyone is wondering, we plan to keep the service running for as long the demand is there). Because of your support, during our first year we have been able to brew frequently, making certain there is a fresh pint for you to enjoy every time.
Since the Flying Monk Brewery started its new chapter, we have been very busy behind the scenes, working non-stop to maintain and improve the brewery to a standard of which we are now happy with. Although these current circumstances make it near impossible to assume what will happen tomorrow, we have some fantastic announcements to come shortly about how the brewery will further its role in the local community.
